I picked up Crash Bandicoot: Purple Riptos Rampage on the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, a time when handhelds were really hitting their stride with solid platformers. It was developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Universal Interactive, and it felt right at home among the GBA's library of action packed, colorful titles. The game was part of a crossover event with Spyro, which gave it a little extra appeal if you were into both series.

You control Crash through a series of side scrolling and isometric levels, spinning into enemies, breaking crates, and gathering gems and fruit. The main goal is to stop Ripto and his minions by completing stages and boss fights, with some light puzzle solving mixed in. Signature mechanics include the returning spin attack and body slam, along with vehicle sections that break up the platforming. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike in later stages, demanding precise jumps and quick reactions.
