Crystal Quest came out in 1987 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Patrick Buckland. It was one of those early PC games that felt perfectly at home on a beige box monitor, a colorful and frantic shooter in an era when many games were still text-based or relied on simple, blocky graphics.
You control a small triangular ship inside a series of enclosed arenas, each filled with geometric enemies and deadly, ricocheting lasers. Your goal is to collect every crystal on the screen without getting hit, all while dodging an increasing number of hazards. The game progresses screen by screen, with each new level introducing faster enemies and more complex patterns. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and careful movement. It feels like a pure test of focus and timing, where every mistake is instantly punished and every victory is earned.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
