Play Cutthroat Island on GB Online
Swing your sword through pixelated pirate brawls, unlocking dirtier moves as you chase down map pieces—chunky sprites and beep-boop tunes make it feel like lost Game Boy treasure.

Cutthroat Island on Game Boy came out in 1995, developed by Software Creations. It was part of that wave of licensed games trying to capture the movie's adventure, but on a handheld where everything had to be simpler, chunkier. You got a pocket-sized pirate romp that didn't try to be more than it was.
You control the pirate captain Morgan, slashing through guards and rival sailors with a cutlass across interconnected screens. The goal is to find pieces of a treasure map scattered over the island, which involves a lot of backtracking and key hunting. Combat is straightforward, with a basic attack and occasional screen-clearing special moves you earn, but the level design can be unforgiving with cheap enemy placements. It feels like a condensed, slightly janky arcade adventure that demands patience.
