Sail as Morgan, slash through guards, jump gaps, and hunt for treasure map pieces on tropical islands and enemy ships in this 1995 pirate adventure for Sega Genesis.
CutThroat Island came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins that tried to capture the pirate adventure craze, though it stood out for its ambition on the 16-bit hardware. The game arrived late in the Genesis lifecycle, when developers were pushing the limits of what the console could do visually and sonically.
You control Morgan, a pirate hunting for pieces of a treasure map across tropical islands and enemy ships. The gameplay mixes side-scrolling combat with exploration; you slash through guards with your sword, jump across gaps, and hunt for keys to unlock new areas. Some stages let you fire cannons at rival ships or navigate through multi-level forts. The pacing is uneven, with occasional difficulty spikes, but the variety keeps things interesting. It feels like a rough, energetic scramble through a pirate fantasy, complete with all the clashing steel and booming broadsides you would expect.
