Game Overview

Cyber Knight is one of those SNES RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it never left Japan until fans translated it. At first glance, it feels like someone mashed up Star Trek with a turn-based JRPG, but it’s way weirder (and cooler) than that.

You start by customizing your spaceship—choosing weapons, engines, all that sci-fi stuff—but the real fun begins when you recruit your crew. There’s this weirdly deep dialogue system where your choices actually matter, and some of the alien races you meet are just… bizarre in the best way. Combat’s a mix of ship battles (think tactical grid movement) and classic RPG party fights, which keeps things from getting stale.

What surprised me was how much it reminded me of later games like Mass Effect, but with that unmistakable 90s anime vibe. The translation’s solid, though some of the humor definitely feels like it came straight from a Japanese dev team in 1992. If you’re into retro sci-fi with actual consequences to your choices, this one’s a time capsule worth cracking open.
