Cyborg 009 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1994, developed by Interbec. It was one of those mid-90s action platformers based on an anime property, not particularly well known outside of Japan, but it had a certain style that stood out among other SNES releases of the time.
You control a team of three cyborgs, switching between them to use their unique abilities like hovering, breaking through walls, or using a jetpack to navigate environmental puzzles. The main objective is to progress through side-scrolling stages, defeating enemies and overcoming obstacles that require specific cyborg powers to pass. The pacing is deliberate, with some clunky platforming and untranslated Japanese menus adding to the challenge. It feels like a rough but earnest adaptation, where figuring out each character's role is part of the experience.
