Play Darius + Amiga Online
1987 side-scrolling shooter with branching paths, simplified power-ups, and multiple levels. Players control pilots Proco Jr. or Tiat Young against galactic sea creatures. Released for Amiga.
Darius came to the Amiga in 1987, a port of Taito's arcade game that brought its unique three-screen spectacle home. It was a time when shooters were pushing hardware limits, and this one stood out with its aquatic sci-fi theme and branching level structure. You weren't just flying forward; you were choosing your path through the galaxy.
You pilot a silver spacecraft, the Silver Hawk, through horizontally scrolling stages filled with alien sea creatures. Your main objective is to survive the onslaught, defeat the screen-filling boss at the end of each zone, and eventually confront the Belser army. Key mechanics include collecting red and blue power-up icons to enhance your main shot and secondary weapons, like homing missiles or protective orbs. The game is known for its steep difficulty and the strategic choice of your route after each boss, which determines the stages and enemies you face. It feels like a tense, methodical hunt through an alien ocean.
