Dark Fusion came out on the Amiga in 1988 from Gremlin Graphics, a time when the platform was full of ambitious, graphically rich games trying new things. It was a side-scrolling shooter that stood out for its structure, breaking each of its four levels into distinct zones that demanded different tactics.
You control a soldier on foot and later pilot a ship, switching between ground combat and flight sections within the same mission. The main goal is to blast through waves of enemies, collecting power-ups that present a choice: fuse with them to temporarily adopt a new alien weapon form, or ignore them and rely on your standard arsenal. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is considerable, requiring quick reflexes and smart decisions about which abilities to absorb. It feels like a constant, hectic scramble for survival where every new fusion changes your strategy.
