Game Overview

Deadly Moves came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Toei Animation. It was one of those fighting games that showed up in the middle of the genre's explosion, trying to carve out a little space alongside the bigger names. The graphics were decent for the time, with large character sprites and some interesting background details that gave it a bit of personality.

You control one of several martial artists, each with their own special moves, and fight through a series of one-on-one matches. The main goal is to win the tournament by defeating every opponent. The game uses a four-button setup for punches and kicks of varying strength, and each character has unique command inputs for special attacks. Matches are generally fast, and the AI can be pretty aggressive, making you work for every round. It feels like a solid, if unspectacular, effort to capture the energy of arcade fighters at home.
