Death Trap came out in 1983 for the Atari 2600, published by Data Age. It was one of those games that tried to do something a little different on the system, mixing shooting with puzzle elements in a sci-fi setting.

You control a small ship that moves through a maze of corridors, hunting down shield generators while dodging enemy fire. The main goal is to destroy all the generators on each screen before moving to the next. Two mechanics stand out: your ship locks into place when you fire, forcing you to plan each shot carefully, and the generators are often hidden, requiring you to explore the maze under pressure. The game moves quickly, and the difficulty ramps up fast as enemies become more aggressive. It feels tense and deliberate, like a race against your own reflexes.
