Game Overview

Defender of the Crown on GBA is this weird mix of strategy and medieval politics that somehow works. You start with a tiny castle and a handful of troops, and the whole map is just open for you to either expand or get crushed by the other lords.

First thing I did was try jousting, which is way harder than it looks. The controls are clunky, but when you finally knock someone off their horse, it feels oddly satisfying. Then there's the raiding mechanic—sometimes you just roll up to a castle, fight through a maze of guards, and walk out with gold or even a forced marriage alliance.

It's not perfect—the combat is basic, and the AI can be frustratingly random—but there's something about Defender of the Crown that makes you keep playing just to see if you can finally unite England under your rule.
