Defender of the Crown drops you into medieval England right after the king’s been murdered—total chaos, Saxons and Normans at each other’s throats, and you’re one of four knights trying to claw your way to power. Robin Hood (yeah, that Robin Hood) gives you the rundown, and suddenly you’re staring at a single sad castle and a handful of soldiers, wondering how the heck you’re supposed to take over the whole country.

It starts simple—recruit troops, siege castles, outmaneuver rival lords—but then things get messy. Your so-called Saxon allies might backstab you, and those jousting tournaments? Way harder than they look. Miss the lance timing and you’re eating dirt while the crowd laughs. Raiding castles feels like a gamble—sometimes you walk out with gold, other times you’re stuck marrying some noble’s daughter to secure an alliance (which, honestly, isn’t the worst strategy).

It’s got that classic Amiga charm—pixelated banners waving, clunky but satisfying combat, and just enough randomness to keep you on your toes. You’ll lose a few battles before realizing brute force doesn’t always win wars. The crown’s waiting, but good luck holding onto it.
