Game Overview

Defender of the Crown came out in 1986 for MS-DOS, developed by Cinemaware. It was one of those games that made you feel like your computer could do more than just run spreadsheets or text adventures. The graphics, for the time, were a real step up, pulling you into its medieval world with painted-looking scenes and animations that felt almost cinematic.

You control a Saxon knight trying to reclaim England from Norman rule. The main goal is to capture all the territories on the map through a mix of strategy and action sequences. You'll spend time moving your armies across the countryside, raiding enemy estates, and leading sieges on castles. Two of the most memorable parts are the jousting tournaments, where timing your lance strike is everything, and the field battles, which play out like a simple tactical mini-game. The pacing can be slow between conflicts, and the difficulty is unforgiving; one bad decision can cost you knights or land. It feels like a precarious balancing act between bold moves and careful planning.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
