Play Defender of the Dynatron City Online

Pick a weirdo hero—like a monkey tossing banana bombs or a girl with saw blades for legs—then brawl through robot hordes in this janky, lovable NES sidescroller. Dr. Mayhem’s death traps will wreck you, but the chaos is half the charm.

Game Overview

Defender of the Dynatron City is one of those weird, charming NES games where you pick a superhero with bizarre powers and fight off waves of robots. The roster’s full of oddballs—like Buzzsaw Girl, who literally has saw blades for legs, or Toolbox, a robot who smashes things with his hammer head. My personal favorite? Monkey Kid, who chucks exploding bananas like some kind of chaotic blue primate.

It’s a side-scroller where you jump between platforms, punch bad guys, and occasionally get wrecked by Dr. Mayhem’s ridiculous contraptions. The controls take a second to get used to (Jet Headstrong’s detachable head still throws me off), but there’s something fun about how over-the-top every character feels. Also, yes, this was a cartoon first—you can practically hear the voice actors hamming it up while you play.

It’s janky in that classic NES way, but if you like superhero games with more personality than polish, this one’s a riot.
