Game Overview

Dejiko no Mahjong Party came out for the Game Boy Color in 2001, developed by KID and published by Broccoli. It was part of that wave of late-era GBC titles that leaned into anime tie-ins, offering something a little more niche and character-driven than the usual puzzle or platformer fare. The game draws from the Di Gi Charat universe, so if you knew the series, it felt like a natural, if quirky, extension.

You play as Dejiko, working through a series of mahjong matches against opponents from the show. The main goal is to win each round by forming valid hands, but the real flavor comes from the interactions between tiles. Character-specific power-ups pop up during play, letting you swap tiles or peek at hidden ones, and between matches you get short, comedic cutscenes that break up the pace. It’s not especially difficult if you already understand mahjong, but the constant interruptions and lighthearted tone keep it from feeling too serious. Playing it feels like hanging out with a hyperactive friend who occasionally makes you focus on a board game.
