Game Overview

Dell Crossword Puzzles Volume III was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, a collection of straightforward digital diversions from the early 1990s. It was published by Merit Software, a company known for educational and puzzle titles that ran on home computers of the era. This was software you loaded from a floppy disk, a simple text-based interface waiting patiently after the C: prompt.

You control the cursor, moving it square by square across the blank grid using arrow keys or the mouse if your system supported one. The main objective is to solve the crossword by typing answers that fit both the across and down clues. Signature mechanics include tabbing between clue numbers to jump to their starting squares and using the backspace key to correct mistakes letter by letter. The puzzles range from Monday easy to weekend tough, with no built in hints or auto check features to save you. It feels like wrestling with a particularly stubborn newspaper puzzle, but with the added tactile pleasure of hearing each keypress echo through the room.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
