Game Overview

Desert Strike on GB is one of those Game Boy ports that actually works—somehow, they crammed all the helicopter mayhem of the original into that little gray brick. You're still piloting an Apache, still blowing up bunkers and rescuing POWs, but now you're squinting at a tiny screen while trying not to crash into a sand dune.

What surprised me was how much strategy survived the transition. You can't just spray missiles everywhere—you'll run out of ammo fast, and fuel's always ticking down. The first time I failed a mission because I got too trigger-happy with the rockets? Yeah, that stung. But nailing a perfect run, balancing objectives while dodging anti-air fire? Pure satisfaction, even in chunky pixels.

It's obviously not as pretty as the SNES version, but the core loop holds up. If you've got nostalgia for the Strike series or just want some bite-sized tactical chaos, this one's worth dusting off your Game Boy for. Just maybe bring a magnifying glass.
