Game Overview

Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games lineup, published by Electronic Arts. It was a time when isometric shooters were gaining traction, offering a different perspective from the top-down or side-scrolling action common on the platform.

You control an Apache helicopter pilot tasked with stopping a rogue general across a series of missions in a hostile desert. Your main objective involves destroying enemy installations, rescuing prisoners of war, and gathering intelligence, all while managing limited fuel and ammunition. Signature mechanics include navigating a large, interconnected map screen by screen, engaging in tactical combat against tanks, patrol boats, and other helicopters, and carefully planning each sortie to avoid running out of resources. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, because mistakes are costly and the difficulty is unforgiving. It feels like a high-stakes puzzle where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
