Dirt Trax FX came out in 1995 for the Super Nintendo, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was one of those later SNES releases that tried to push the hardware with its special FX chip, aiming for a more intense, faster style of racing compared to what was typical on the system. It arrived at a time when 3D was the new frontier, and this was an attempt to bring that kind of chaotic, off-road feeling home.
You control a rider on a dirt bike, picking from a few different models and then just trying to survive the track. The main goal is straightforward: finish the race in first place. The signature mechanics are all about managing the bike's weight and the loose terrain; you have to lean forward or back to keep traction, and the jumps are floaty, requiring careful timing to land properly. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty comes from the bike's unwieldy physics and the other riders constantly bashing into you. It feels like wrestling a wild animal down a rocky hill.
