Game Overview

Dokapon Gaiden: Honoo no Audition came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Asmik Ace. It was part of that wave of quirky, experimental titles that tried to blend genres in ways you didn't see every day, especially outside of Japan. This one took the party-game chaos of something like Mario Party and gave it a full RPG structure, complete with towns, dungeons, and a proper story to follow.

You control a custom character, moving across a board game-style map by rolling dice. The main goal is to build your strength, complete quests for the king, and ultimately become the kingdom's greatest hero, though you'll spend just as much time sabotaging the other players. Key mechanics include turn-based combat against monsters you land on, buying and upgrading gear in towns, and using spin-off panels that can drastically change your fortune. The pacing is unpredictable; one minute you're rich and powerful, the next you're broke and cursed because a rival landed on your space. It feels like a chaotic, friendship-testing race where every dice roll matters.
