Dominus came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Epic MegaGames. It was one of those strategy titles that felt right at home in an era when complex, turn-based games were still finding their footing on home computers. You didn't get much hand-holding, just a map and the expectation that you would figure things out through trial and a lot of error.
You control a feudal lord aiming to conquer the entire map by managing resources, recruiting troops, and engaging in tactical combat. The main objective is to capture all enemy castles, which involves moving armies across a divided overworld, one territory at a time. Signature mechanics include managing gold and food to sustain your forces, and resolving battles through a simple but decisive dice-roll system that weighs army size and type. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty can be punishing if you expand too quickly or neglect your economy. It feels like a careful, sometimes tense chess match where every move has long-term consequences.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
