Play Dungeon Explorer (SQUiRE) (E) Online
Pick a class, dive into dungeons, and watch your back—hidden traps and sneaky enemies keep you on your toes between switch puzzles and spike pit ambushes. The chunky pixel art and weirdly catchy cave-music vibe make those "one more floor" nights fly by.

Dungeon Explorer for the Nintendo DS came out in 2008 from Hudson Soft, a time when the handheld was full of quirky, mid-budget adventures. It was a solidly built dungeon crawler that didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a familiar kind of challenge for the portable screen.
You control a lone hero, choosing from a few classic classes like a knight or a mage, and your job is to delve deep into a multi-level dungeon. The exploration is screen by screen, with a lot of backtracking to hit newly accessible switches. Combat is straightforward, mostly just swinging your sword or casting a spell at the monsters that pop out from the edges. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, as you carefully check for traps and manage your limited health and magic. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes tense, crawl through a dangerous place.
