Game Overview
E-SWAT: City Under Siege is one of those SEGA Master System games that somehow feels both punishing and ridiculously fun at the same time. You start off as a regular beat cop with a pea-shooter pistol, but after the first few levels, you finally get to suit up in this clunky-but-awesome armored exosuit—and suddenly you're stomping through the city like a mini mech, blasting gangsters with a spread shot that actually feels powerful.
The controls are surprisingly tight for an 8-bit shooter, though the difficulty spikes hard around the third stage (that factory level with the conveyor belts still gives me nightmares). But there’s something satisfying about memorizing enemy patterns and finally bulldozing through a section that wrecked you five tries earlier. The music’s got that classic SEGA synth punch too—you’ll be humming the boss theme for days.
It’s not as flashy as the arcade version, but I actually prefer this one. Less waiting around, more action. Just don’t expect to beat it in one sitting unless you’ve got reflexes like a caffeinated squirrel.
