Game Overview

E-Swat is one of those late '80s arcade gems that somehow flew under the radar. You start as a regular beat cop in bulky armor, blasting through waves of cyberpunk thugs—until you get to upgrade into this sleek power suit that completely changes how you play. The first time I transformed mid-level, I just stood there for a second admiring how much cooler my character looked.

The levels are these neon-drenched cityscapes straight out of Blade Runner, packed with enemies popping out of manholes and rappelling down buildings. It's got that classic arcade difficulty too—you'll die a lot at first figuring out enemy patterns, but when you finally clear a tough section, it feels earned. The boss fights are especially brutal in the best way.

If you're into retro action games with a cyberpunk vibe, this one's worth digging up in MAME. Just don't get too attached to your first few quarters.
