Eamon, released as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, was originally created by Donald Brown in the early 1980s. It was a text adventure system that ran on Apple II computers before making its way to DOS, offering a framework for player-created dungeons and stories. The game belongs to that era when home computing was just opening up, and players were starting to build their own worlds.
You control a custom adventurer, starting with limited gold to buy basic weapons and armor before entering one of many available dungeons. Movement is room by room, with text descriptions setting each scene; you type simple commands to fight monsters, negotiate with characters, or search for hidden items. Combat is turn-based and often unforgiving, relying on your stats and equipment, while the open structure means objectives vary by the specific adventure module you choose. Progress feels earned through cautious exploration and smart resource management, and even a small mistake can lead to a quick, unceremonious end. Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
