Game Overview

Electroplankton came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of those early DS titles that really leaned into the hardware's unique features, like the touch screen and microphone, offering something completely different from the usual platformers or puzzle games.

You don't control a character in the traditional sense; instead, you interact directly with different species of plankton on the screen. Each of the ten plankton types has its own behavior and sound. For example, you might draw paths for Tracy plankton to swim along, creating melodic loops, or tap Hanenbow to bounce them off leaves, changing the pitch with each impact. You can also blow into the microphone to influence their movement or create ripples in the water. There isn't a clear objective or score; the focus is on experimentation and creating your own soundscapes. The pacing is entirely up to you, with no pressure or failure state. Playing it feels like conducting a quiet, living orchestra made of light and water.
