Espionage is one of those MS-DOS Classic Games releases that doesn't get a lot of fanfare, but it has a quiet, tense charm. I don't recall the developer offhand, but it fits right in with that era of early PC gaming where simple graphics left a lot to the imagination. You're dropped into a Cold War spy scenario with minimal hand-holding, which was pretty standard for the time.
You control an agent infiltrating enemy compounds, moving screen by screen through military bases and research facilities. Your main objective is to retrieve secret documents or microfilm while avoiding guards and surveillance. Key mechanics include sneaking past patrols, testing doors to find which ones are unlocked, and sometimes using limited tools like keys or disguises. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, because one wrong move brings guards swarming; the difficulty comes from memorizing guard patterns and managing your very limited resources. It feels like a careful, methodical puzzle where every step could be your last.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
