Play Fallout Online
Explore a post-apocalyptic world, manage your inventory, engage in turn-based combat, and make choices that shape your Vault Dweller's journey in Fallout.
Fallout came out in 1997 for MS-DOS, developed by Interplay Entertainment. It was part of that wave of deep, complex PC RPGs that didn't hold your hand, where you spent as much time reading dialogue and managing your inventory as you did fighting. The game drops you into a harsh, isometric world of ruined cities and mutant-filled deserts, and it expects you to figure things out for yourself.
You control a Vault Dweller, a survivor from an underground shelter, tasked with finding a replacement water chip to save your home. You explore the world screen by screen, engaging in turn-based combat where you target specific enemy body parts. Your choices in character creation, like your Strength or Intelligence stats, drastically change how you solve problems, whether through talking, stealing, or fighting. The pacing is slow and deliberate, and the difficulty is punishing if you wander into the wrong area too early. It feels like surviving on your wits in a place that has already ended once.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
