Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, published by 2K Games. It was part of that wave of movie tie-in games that tried to capture the action and teamwork of the source material on a handheld. The DS was full of experiments with its dual screens and touch controls, and this game was no exception.
You control all four members of the Fantastic Four, switching between them on the fly to use their unique powers in combat and to solve environmental puzzles. The main goal is to stop the Silver Surfer and Galactus from destroying Earth. Signature mechanics include using the touch screen for hacking minigames and activating switches, as well as coordinating team attacks during hectic fights against large groups of enemies. The pacing is uneven, with some sections dragging due to repetitive touch interactions, but the boss battles are large and demand quick thinking. It feels like a messy but earnest attempt to bring a superhero brawl to the small screen.
