Farland Story 2 is one of those SNES strategy RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it’s easy to mix up with the other game also called "Farland Story 2." This one’s a side story set 20 years after Arc’s reign, where you play as Riad, a prince who bolts from his warmongering dad after things get ugly. He’s not alone, though—Serena, the girl he loves (and his dad wants to exploit), tags along.
The battles are big, grid-based affairs where positioning matters way more than you’d think at first. You’ll shuffle your party around, trying to keep healers safe while your sword guys hold the line. And yeah, if Riad goes down, it’s game over—no second chances. The vibe’s darker than the usual Farland Story fare, with political backstabbing and some genuinely tense moments. Magic feels weighty, and the sprite work’s got that classic mid-’90s charm, even if the animations are a little stiff.
It’s not the deepest SRPG out there, but there’s something satisfying about slowly turning the tide in those sprawling battles.
