Game Overview

Ferret Monogatari is one of those weird little Game Boy Color games that makes you go, "Wait, why didn’t we get this outside Japan?" It’s basically a Tamagotchi-style pet sim, but instead of a pixel blob, you get an actual ferret—complete with goofy animations and way too much energy.

You start by naming your ferret (mine was "Noodle," obviously) and then jump into mini-games like treasure hunting or obstacle courses. The controls are simple, but the ferret physics are weirdly satisfying—they flop around when they trip, and sometimes just stare at you like you’ve betrayed them. There’s also this oddly deep bonding system where your choices affect their personality over time. Mine ended up a lazy food thief.

It’s not some epic RPG, but that’s the charm. The pixel art’s full of tiny details, like how your ferret curls up to sleep or does a little victory dance. If you’ve ever wanted a low-stakes, nostalgic time-waster with a side of '90s weirdness, this is it. Just don’t blame me when you start muttering "kawaii" under your breath.
