Play FIFA International Soccer 1996 Online

Slide tackles send players flying, the commentary won’t shut up about saves, and indoor mode still feels like chaotic mini-soccer—just don’t expect the ref to call anything.

Game Overview

FIFA '96 on the Sega 32X was one of those games that made you feel like you were holding the future of soccer in your hands—at least until the PlayStation version came out. The isometric view gives it this weirdly charming angle, and the players actually have faces now instead of pixel blobs. Slide tackles feel brutal, the commentary’s hilariously repetitive ("What a save! What a save!"), and the indoor soccer mode? Still weirdly fun after all these years.

Just don’t expect modern controls—dribbling feels like herding cats sometimes, and the refs never call fouls. But if you’ve got a buddy and a second controller, those 2v2 matches get stupidly competitive fast. It’s janky in that mid-90s way, but there’s something about the chunky crowd chants and those over-the-top goal celebrations that still hits right.
