Final Fantasy Sonic X3: Stone of Chaos is this weird, kinda janky but weirdly charming Flash game where Sonic fights in turn-based battles like some kind of blue hedgehog Pokémon trainer. You’ve got classic FF-style menus, random encounters, and a surprisingly deep (if slightly confusing) skill system. At first I just mashed attack, but after getting wrecked by a random bat enemy, I realized you actually have to think about buffs, debuffs, and which of Sonic’s weirdly specific abilities to use.
The sprites are nostalgic in that early 2000s Newgrounds way, and the music’s a mix of Sonic and Final Fantasy tracks that somehow works. It’s not polished, but there’s something fun about seeing Robotnik show up as a JRPG boss with a ridiculous health bar. Just save often—some of those "strategic options" can softlock you if you pick wrong.
