Play Final Fantasy Sonic X5 Online
Sonic and crew get stuck in a turn-based RPG—you pick spin dashes from menus instead of blasting through levels, and somehow it clicks. The True Guardian fight goes full anime with sprite explosions and dramatic zooms.

Final Fantasy Sonic X5 is this weirdly cool mashup where Sonic and friends get thrown into a turn-based RPG—like someone took a Genesis cartridge and jammed it into a SNES Final Fantasy game. You’ve got the usual spiky blue speedster, but now he’s waiting his turn to whack enemies with spin-dash-turned-ability. The True Guardian fight? Total spectacle, all flashing sprites and dramatic camera pans. At first I kept trying to button-mash like a regular Sonic game, but nah, you gotta pick attacks from a menu like some kind of hedgehog strategist. Weirdly, it works.
Some of the special moves feel overpowered (looking at you, Chaos Control), but the sprite work and chiptune battle music make up for it. Just don’t expect deep lore—it’s basically "fight monster, win, repeat" with a Sonic coat of paint. Still weirdly addictive for a Flash relic.
