Game Overview

Final Knockout is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System game released only in Japan, developed by TOSE and published by Irem. It arrived during the SNES era when fighting games were diversifying beyond the standard one-on-one format, offering a more straightforward, less flashy alternative to the likes of Street Fighter or Fatal Fury.

You control a boxer, chosen from a small roster with varying stats, and work through a series of matches against other fighters. The main objective is to win each bout by knocking out your opponent or by decision if the time runs out. The gameplay revolves around throwing punches with different buttons for jabs and hooks, blocking incoming attacks, and managing your stamina to avoid becoming too winded. Matches are methodical and somewhat slow, demanding patience and good timing more than rapid combos. Landing a clean punch has a definite, weighty feel to it, and winning a tough match brings a real sense of earned accomplishment.
