Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken (or The Blazing Blade if you're outside Japan) was my first real taste of tactical RPGs—and man, what a way to start. You think you're just moving little sprites around a grid, but then someone you've grown attached to takes an unlucky axe hit and suddenly it's personal. The pixel art still holds up, especially those flashy critical attack animations that make you cheer even when you're alone in your room.
Lyn's story eases you in, but don't get too comfortable—once Eliwood and Hector show up, the battles get properly brutal. The weapon triangle keeps you on your toes (swords beat axes, axes beat lances, lances beat swords... until someone promotes and flips the script), and those support conversations between characters? Accidentally stumbled into my first one and spent way too long pairing people up just to see what they'd say. Classic GBA magic that still feels sharp twenty years later.
