Fire Emblem: Dream of Five feels like someone dug up a lost GBA Fire Emblem game—except it’s actually a fan-made romhack that somehow nails the vibe perfectly. You’ve got the grid-based battles, the permadeath tension, and those little character moments that make you weirdly attached to your ragtag army. But instead of recycled maps, there’s a whole new story with original lords, some surprisingly tough mission objectives, and classes that actually feel balanced for once.

The pixel art’s crisp, the music fits right in with the GBA era, and yeah, you’ll probably reset a lot when your favorite unit gets critted by some bandit in chapter 5. It’s got that "one more turn" hook, but with enough fresh ideas (and a few brutal ambush spawns) to keep even series vets on their toes.
