Fire Emblem: Darion’s Hack feels like someone dug into my old GBA cartridges and secretly added a bunch of new stuff while I wasn’t looking. Same grid-based battles, same tense permadeath stakes, but now with unfamiliar faces popping up in the story and maps that make me rethink my usual strategies. I got wrecked in chapter 3 by some axe fighters hiding in the woods—classic Fire Emblem ambush, but it still caught me off guard.

The classes have some subtle tweaks too—my usual cavalry rush tactics didn’t work as well early on, so I had to actually use archers for once. Story’s got that familiar mix of political drama and personal bonds, though I won’t spoil whether the new lord character grows on you or not. If you’ve played Blazing Blade to death and want that itch scratched with fresh surprises, this’ll do it. Just keep a healer close by.
