First Samurai on MS-DOS is one of those games that feels like it got lost in time—just like your sword-wielding hero, who’s hopping between feudal Japan and weird sci-fi futures to get his stolen blade back. The controls are surprisingly smooth for a '90s side-scroller, and swinging your sword just feels good—especially when you stumble on power-ups like that ridiculous demon head that wipes out everything on screen.
It’s not all mindless slashing, though. You’ll poke around for keys, figure out how to bypass traps, and maybe even laugh at some of the goofier enemy designs. The pixel art holds up, too—vibrant colors, detailed backgrounds, and just enough weirdness (why are there robots in 16th-century Kyoto?).
If you’ve played Turrican, you’ll recognize the same tight action here. It’s tough but fair, with that addictive "one more try" pull. Definitely a cult classic for a reason.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
