Game Overview

I picked up The Flintstones: Big Trouble in Bedrock on Game Boy Advance back in 2001, a game developed by RFX Interactive and published by Ubisoft. It was one of those licensed platformers that felt right at home on the GBA, a system packed with colorful, side scrolling adventures. The game captures the look and feel of the cartoon, but it doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it's straightforward and familiar, the kind of thing you'd grab between classes or on a short trip.

You control Fred Flintstone, and later Barney Rubble, moving screen by screen through levels filled with dinosaurs, cavemen, and other Stone Age hazards. The main goal is to rescue Pebbles and Bamm Bamm after they're kidnapped, which involves a lot of running, jumping, and using Fred's club to smash enemies and break certain blocks. You also get to ride in the Flintmobile for some driving sections, which break up the platforming. The pacing is brisk, though some jumps require precise timing, and the difficulty can spike in later stages. It feels like a solid, no frills platformer that gets the job done without overstaying its welcome.
