FlixMix was one of those oddball MS-DOS releases from the early 90s that didn't come from a major publisher, just a small team or maybe even a single developer trying something different. It fit right in with the era's experimental puzzle games, the kind you'd find on a shareware disk between more serious titles.
You control a cursor, grabbing and sorting scattered film reels that scroll onto the screen from all sides. The main objective is to assemble complete scenes by matching the correct reels before the timer runs out and the screen becomes an unmanageable clutter. Signature mechanics include dragging reels into a central staging area, rotating them for proper alignment, and clearing finished scenes to buy more time. The pacing is relentlessly fast, and the difficulty spikes quickly as more reels enter play. It feels like trying to tidy a room while someone keeps throwing more junk through the window.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
