Game Overview

Fortress Underground came out on the Amiga in 1987 from Kingsoft GmbH. It was one of those early Amiga games that tried to push the hardware a bit, offering a more complex take on the shoot 'em up genre by putting you in a claustrophobic, subterranean maze instead of an open sky.

You pilot a small attack helicopter through a network of tight, multi-screen tunnels, shooting robotic enemies and dodging their fire. Your main goal is to hunt down and destroy a hidden enemy power station somewhere in the depths. You have to carefully manage your limited fuel and ammunition, forcing you to find specific safe rooms to refuel and save your progress. The pacing is tense and deliberate, as a wrong turn or wasted shot can leave you stranded. It feels like a careful, strategic crawl through a hostile, mechanical underworld.
