God Eater came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2010, developed by Shift and published by Bandai Namco. You control a custom character who joins a military unit fighting massive creatures called Aragami. Your main goal is to complete missions, defeat these monsters, and gather materials to upgrade your gear. The key mechanics involve using God Arcs, weapons that shift between melee blades and firearms; you can slash at weak points, then quickly switch to gun mode to fire at range. Another signature feature is the Burst system, which lets you temporarily enhance your abilities by devouring Aragami parts. The pacing is mission based, with preparation and resource management between sorties, and the difficulty can spike sharply on later hunts. It feels tense and reactive, especially when you successfully break an enemy’s attack pattern and retaliate with a well timed devour.
