God of War: Ghost of Sparta came out in 2010 for the PlayStation Portable, developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony. It was one of the stronger action titles on the PSP, expanding Kratos’ story between the main console games without requiring a home system.

You control Kratos through fixed camera angles, navigating environmental puzzles and fighting mythological enemies with the Blades of Athena. Your main goal is to find your brother Deimos, which leads you through volcanic forges and sunken cities. Two key mechanics include the Thera’s Bane ability, which superheats your blades for explosive area attacks, and a magical shield used for blocking and parrying. The pacing stays intense, with combat that demands timing and awareness rather than just button mashing. It feels brutal and responsive, especially when you trigger a quick time event to finish off a minotaur or gorgon.
