God of War: Ghost of Sparta came out in 2010 for the PlayStation Portable, developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was one of the stronger action titles on the PSP, expanding Kratos’ story during the period between the main console games. The hardware limitations didn’t stop it from delivering a solid, visually impressive experience that fit right in your pocket.

You control Kratos as he ventures through Atlantis and other mythic locations, battling monsters and solving environmental puzzles. Your main goal is to uncover the truth about his brother Deimos, which drives the narrative forward. Signature mechanics include the Blades of Athena for up-close combat, the Thera’s Bane ability that lets you ignite enemies with searing attacks, and screen-by-screen exploration that occasionally opens into larger arenas. The pacing stays intense, with difficulty that pushes you to master combos and quick-time events. It feels brutal and satisfying, especially when you chain attacks and watch enemies explode in classic God of War fashion.
