Game Overview

Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Alfa System and published by Toho. It was one of the few fighting games on the system that let you control giant monsters, and it arrived at a time when the SNES library was full of varied, experimental titles.

You choose from a roster of classic Toho monsters, including Godzilla, Mothra, and Mechagodzilla, and battle across destructible cityscapes. The main goal is to deplete your opponent's health bar using a mix of close-range attacks, projectiles like atomic breath, and throws that let you pick up and toss buildings or other objects. The pacing is deliberate, with an emphasis on positioning and timing rather than speed, and the difficulty can spike sharply against certain opponents. It feels heavy and satisfying to control these massive creatures as they trade blows and reduce the city to rubble.
