Swiping the stylus to make Godzilla tail-swipe skyscrapers feels ridiculous at first, then suddenly perfect—like you're actually that clumsy giant leaving craters everywhere. Dodging Mothra's wing blasts while charging up your atomic breath never gets old.

Game Overview

Godzilla Unleashed on the Nintendo DS came out in 2007, developed by Pipeworks Software. It was part of that wave of DS games that really tried to use the touch screen for something more than just menus, fitting right in with the system's experimental phase. You weren't just watching monsters on a tiny screen; you were poking and swiping to make them move.

You control one of several classic kaiju, like Godzilla or Mothra, and your main goal is to beat up other monsters while reducing the city around you to rubble. The touch screen is used for most attacks; swiping the stylus performs tail whips or claw slashes, while tapping icons charges and releases special abilities like atomic breath. You also need to manage a rage meter that builds as you fight, unlocking more powerful moves. The pacing is chaotic, with constant attacks from multiple enemies and environmental hazards, making it fairly difficult to stay in control. It feels like you're wrestling with the controls just as much as the monsters, but that struggle somehow makes destroying everything even more satisfying.
