Golden Sun came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed by Camelot and published by Nintendo. It was one of those early GBA titles that really showed what the hardware could do with its detailed sprite work and bright, colorful world. At the time, it stood out among other handheld RPGs for its depth and polish.

You control a group of young adepts, each with command over elemental psynergy, as you journey to prevent the destructive power of alchemy from being unleashed. You explore towns and dungeons screen by screen, using psynergy outside of combat to move obstacles, reveal hidden paths, and solve environmental puzzles. The turn-based battles let you summon powerful djinn, and collecting these creatures becomes a major part of strengthening your party. The pacing is deliberate, with puzzles that require attention and a difficulty that encourages thoughtful strategy. It feels rewarding to see a dungeon’s mechanisms click into place after careful observation.
