Game Overview

I first played Golf on the NES back in 1986, a game developed by Nintendo and published in Europe by Nintendo of Europe GmbH. It was one of those early sports titles that felt right at home on the console, offering a straightforward take on the sport without a lot of the complexity that would come later.

You control a golfer from an overhead perspective, working your way through 18 holes across three different courses. The main goal is simple: get the ball in the hole in as few strokes as possible. The signature mechanics include selecting your club, adjusting the power and direction of your swing using a three-click meter, and reading the lay of the land to judge slopes and wind. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty comes from mastering those timing-based swings and learning how each course behaves. It feels satisfying to finally nail a long putt or drive the ball straight down the fairway after a few failed attempts.
