Grailquest is one of those games that makes you realize how much personality a text adventure can have. You start off as this hilariously inept hero—think of the worst knight at the Round Table—and suddenly you're dodging dragons, arguing with wizards, and trying not to die in the dumbest ways possible. The writing’s packed with dry British humor, like if Terry Pratchett decided to make a game.
Combat’s turn-based, but half the fun is figuring out whether to fight or talk your way out of trouble. I remember wasting half an hour trying to bribe a troll with moldy cheese because the game let me. And yeah, you’ll type a lot of commands, but it never feels tedious—just unpredictable in the best way. One minute you’re looting a chest, the next you’re getting roasted by a sarcastic narrator.
It’s rough around the edges by today’s standards, but that’s part of the charm. If you’ve got a soft spot for old-school adventures where the jokes land as hard as the puzzles, this one’s a riot. Just save often—death comes fast, and it’s usually ridiculous.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
